Getting used to wearing hearing aids takes some patience and practice. It takes time to “re-learn” how to hear with hearing instruments. In the beginning everything will sound different than what you are used to. Initially you will hear things you forgot you could hear.
Here are some tips on how to get used to your new hearing aids:
- Begin wearing your hearing aids at home for just a few hours a day
- Get re-acquainted with sounds like a running water tap, the refrigerator humming and the television.
- Start listening to voices you know and the sound of your own voice
- Then try following conversations in slightly noisier places
After the first week, common sounds and voices should seem familiar again. Now you can start wearing your hearing aids for longer periods of time and in the various situations of your everyday life.
